Years ago, the Federal Communications Commission administered amateur radio license
exams. But since 1984, in an effort started by the
ARRL/VEC, Volunteer Examiners (VEs) accredited by their respective VECs would
administer amateur radio license examinations...then send the exam session data for processing to their respective VEC,
who would then send the data to the FCC.
As a service to VEs in the amateur radio service licensing regions administered by the
FCC, I've created this page for them to list their availability...in case a VE Team
runs short on VEs for an amateur radio license exam session. This can be true when weather, holiday weekends, or other
instances occur.
A minimum of three (3) VEs of the appropriate license class are needed for a test session to be
conducted. As per license class, if the VE Team is only administering Element 2 (Technician), the VEs must be
General Class or higher. If the team is also adminstering Element 3 (General), the VEs must be Advanced Class or
higher. And, if the team is administering Element 4 (Amateur Extra) as well, the VEs must be Amateur Extra Class
licensees.
The listing is open to properly licensed and accredited VEs by their respective Volunteer Examiner Coordinator
(VEC) group. Each VE Team Liasion is responsible for ensuring that the VEs with their team have the proper
license and accreditation to administer the applicable license exam elements. If these are not met, it could
cost the examinee a hard earned license...whether new or upgrade...and it'd leave a ''bad taste''
in the examinees mouths, concerning amateur radio. As VEs, we should show a ''positive image'' for the hobby.
When traveling to another area, if a VE plans to ''visit'' a scheduled test session...it's advised that they contact the
VE Team Liasion for that group, to see if they can serve...or if they'll just be allowed to observe. Even if it's the
latter, the ''visiting VE'' might pick up some tips that they can use for their VE sessions that they do back home.

Information Needed
The information needed for this page is as follows:
1) VE Name And Callsign. Due to the potential for spiderbot email spamming, email addresses are NOT listed
here. However, several of the hams listed may have their emails on the QRZ website...
but you likely have to be logged on as a licensed radio amateur to view the information.
2) License Class (General, Advanced, or Amateur Extra), and the VEC Group(s) that they belong to. The VEC Group is
any of those that are FCC Certified VEC's. You don't actually have to
be a member of a local VE Team, per se...but you need to be part of one of these groups. Otherwise, your listing will be
shown with ''No Known VE Groups''...and you may become less likely to be called to help with a test session.
3) Geographic Area: Where the VE prefers to serve, or is available to go to. I know that the
ARRL/VEC has a mileage reimbursement provision (contact them for details), but
I am not sure about other VECs.
If you wish to contact me, a graphic with my contact information is located
here.
